In string walking the drawing hand moves up and down the string with the distance. That asks two things of a tab: that it holds its shape so the pressure point stays the same at every crawl, and that it sits in the same place on the hand every time. The first is handled by the light metal plate, which resists the pull of the string instead of deforming. The second by the triple elastic finger strap and the adjustable depth regulator, which sets how far the fingers sit inside the tab.

The leather face is the simpler of the materials offered. The construction matches the higher grade versions in the range, only the facing differs. Leather releases softly and evenly and moulds to your own hand with use; in return it wears faster than the more expensive materials and wants replacing sooner.
