Half-out inserts for shafts with a 5.2 mm inside diameter, in aluminium or steel.

A half out sits half inside the shaft and half in front of it. The section that protrudes forms a collar protecting exactly the place where a carbon shaft is most vulnerable: the front end, which gives way first when an arrow hits a target frame or another arrow. Compared with an ordinary insert, what you buy is durability at the most exposed point of the arrow.

The two materials differ mainly in weight. The aluminium version weighs 55 grains, the steel version 75. Twenty grains right at the front shift FOC noticeably, so the choice is less about material than about tuning. An archer who has already settled on a point and wants more weight up front can get there through the steel version without changing the point.

• Easton calls this size 5 mm, while it is in fact 5.2 mm or 0.204 inch. Easton rounds the same way for 4.2 mm as 4 mm and 6.2 mm as 6 mm. The inserts therefore fit 5.2 mm shafts from other manufacturers just as well
