Bogentandler News : Review of the Hori-Zone Kornet Maxx 425fps
This post was written at a time when many manufacturers were pushing into the market with very fast crossbows beyond the 420 fps mark. We'll show you why the Hori-Zone Kornet Maxx is a lightweight, value-for-money performer.
Specifications
- Speed: 425 fps
- Draw weight: 210 lbs
- Dead weight: 3.3 kg
- Power Stroke: 15"
- Axle to Axle: 17.75" relaxed
- Axle to Axle: 13.5" tensioned
Scope of delivery
The scope of delivery includes a very attractive mounting case for side mounting and three 20" long carbon bolts (weighing approx. 392 grain). Also included are all the necessary Allen keys - presumably the set also covers the sizes you might need for a later service. The box also contains a tube of wax (for the string and also suitable as a lubricant for the rail), a conventional rope tensioning aid, a detachable neoprene shoulder strap and a high-quality 4x32mm scope.
Assembly & shooting in
The actual assembly is done by mounting the bow on the stock - this is done with a single central screw. The foot stirrup is secured to the stock with two screws. The final step is to mount the scope on the Picatinny rail. Shooting the scope is lightning fast, the scopes are well adjusted at the factory and are easy to use, making it easy for interested shooters to shoot themselves.
Design / Details
The design is rather simple and unobtrusive, one could almost say "boring". The Amrbrust looks high-quality and robust in every respect and has all the usual automatic safety mechanisms. The front handle encourages the user to adopt a correct position and, together with the finger guard, also prevents the support hand from blocking the string path.
- Quad limb compound crossbow - two (small) limb dampers ensure a relatively quiet launch
- CNC machined cam
- Aluminium barrel
- Aluminium full barrel picatinny rail
- Aluminium folding foot-stirrup: the foot stirrup can be folded down and then serves as an integrated stand
- Aluminium adjustable string stoppers: two solid string stoppers are state of the art for fast crossbows
- Precision scope mount and trigger assembly 3.5lbs - trigger weight of 3.5 pounds prevents unintentional triggering
- Adjustable picatinny mount foregrip: allows the foregrip to be adjusted to a comfortable position
- Adjustable tactical rear stock: allows the stock to be adjusted to the body size
- Anti-dry fire trigger system: the shot can only be released when a bolt is inserted
- Auto-safety: after each shot, the crossbow is in a safe state again
Scope
The scope is certainly a highlight of this crossbow. It is a classic scope with a 32mm exit lens and 4x magnification (hence 4x32mm scope). In addition to the horizontal and vertical lines, it also contains 6 target circles that can be illuminated in blue or red in five brightness levels (see photos).
Advantages
- ready to shoot package - includes everything you need
- Easy to assemble, even for inexperienced shooters
- great value for money
- 425 fps arrow speed
- Good scope included in the scope of delivery
- Foot stirrup can be used as a stand
disadvantages
- Not very exciting visual appearance
- Material mix rather plastic-heavy
Summary
A mid-range compound crossbow in an unspectacular black design with a lot of performance for little money. A little more aluminium instead of plastic here and there would do the material mix good, as would noise dampers in the string - but the latter are very easy to retrofit. The cams are very robust, but in contrast to upper-class crossbows, they do not have built-in bearings. A clear buy recommendation.
